Vegan Chili Cheese Nuggets

Welcome to our new theme week! This time it's all about the tastiest and probably greasiest fast food classics of all time. So heat up some oil for new deep-frying projects and get ready for the next seven days. We've already shown you a few teaser photos on Instagram and you even recognized some of our copycat recipes. So of course we were thrilled to see that our vegan versions seem to look similar to the originals, but you now have to try them for yourselves to see if they also taste the same. We start our theme week with a plant-based recipe for the famous “Chili Cheese Nuggets“ from Burger King, which are easier to veganize than you might think.

The right level of spiciness: While we honestly weren't sure exactly what these nuggets tasted like anymore, one thing we remembered was that they were always pretty darn spicy! Whether everyone likes that is another question, which is exactly why you should adjust the filling to your own taste. The decisive factor is jalapeños, which you can use either fresh or jarred. Half of them are blended directly into the vegan cheesy filling, the other half is added afterwards. So before you throw everything in, try the filling first after blending, then add the remaining jalapeños (or even more) little by little, or leave them out completely.

The secret ingredient: The original Chili Cheese Nuggets are filled with a creamy cheesy jalapeño filling that is coated in a crunchy breading. We used a secret ingredient for this that you already know from some of our other cheese recipes (vegan baked camembert, vegan baked cheese, vegan mozzarella sticks): tapioca starch! It's responsible for the stringiness and a cheese-like consistency. Unfortunately, tapioca starch cannot be substituted with other starches, but it can be found quite cheaply in Asian stores and larger supermarkets.

The best ice cube molds: For freezing, we used two different silicone ice cube molds and both worked great. So the size of your molds doesn't matter, but what does matter is that you use silicone molds. We also tested "regular" ice cube molds and had great problems getting the nuggets out of the molds after freezing. If you don't have silicone molds, I recommend lining a large plate with plastic wrap and spooning the "cheese" mixture onto it in small dollops.

One last tip: It's important to freeze the filling before breading – otherwise the nuggets might melt when you fry them. So be a little patient and trust us – it's worth it!

How to make Chili Cheese Dog Pizza

Preheat oven to 500 degrees. If using a pizza stone, place the stone in the cold oven and heat for 1 hour.

Roll dough out on a well floured surface into a 15-inch circle, then place on a parchment paper lined pizza peel. .

Spread the Chili Sauce over the top of the dough without going all the way to the edge.

Sprinkle the Colby Jack cheese over the chili.

Top with hot dog slices and the shredded cheddar cheese.

Slide the pizza and parchment paper onto the preheated pizza stone and bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.

You can easily use canned chili. Or save back leftover chili from the night before. This is a fantastic leftover chili recipe!

The leftover chili will thicken, and then it is easy to spread on the pizza crust. But Hormel canned chili does work just as good.

It just depends on the flavor you want from your chili. Personally, homemade taste best.

Here&rsquos another pasta you can make with leftover chili: spaghetti! Just use the chili in place of your regular spaghetti sauce and you&rsquove got yourself a fusion of Tex-Mex and Italian cuisines. How lovely.

Aside from potatoes and sweet potatoes, here&rsquos another vegetable you can stuff chili into: bell peppers!

This healthy dish is super easy to prepare, especially when you&rsquove already got the sauce ready! Just fill your softened peppers (you can achieve this in the microwave) with chili, cheese, and rice, and bake until the cheese is bubbly.

A Chili Cheese Dog Pizza with a French Fry Crust? This Guy Went There

Pity the poor pizza crust. Recently, snack food mash-up fans have cheered attempts to replace it with everything from Doritos to potato chips. Now a guy named JP Lambiase, who posts weekly videos to YouTube under the handle HellthyJunkFood — “not to be confused with healthy,” he warns — has has created a pizza crust made out of french fries.

He did it in response to a plea issued via YouTube: “JP I want you to make a French Fries pizza and you might think what do I mean well its like a regular pizza but you don't use any dough just fries on the bottom,” someone named thejoman wrote. The request ended with a heartrending final word: “please.”

So Lambiase took up the challenge, ripping open a bag of frozen fries and mashing them into submission. But the thing is, the smooshed fries aren’t even the least appetizing part about this pie. Lambiase pushed the bounds of good taste even further, topping the pizza with canned “no bean” chili and cut-up hot dogs, in addition to lots and lots of cheese.

So how did it taste? Lambiase declares his first bite to be “crazy good,” but after stuffing the rest in his mouth, the truth comes out — among other things.

  • Cook Time: 15 mins
  • Total Time: 30 mins
  • Yield: 4 - 6 servings 1 x

Change up your pizza routine with this Chili Cheese Stromboli! Pizza dough is packed with chili and lots of cheese, then rolled and baked for a fun dinner idea.

  • 12 oz pizza dough
  • 1 can (15 oz) HORMEL® Chili, no beans
  • 3/4 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 3/4 cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

  1. Preheat the oven to 450ºF. If using a pizza stone, let the stone heat for 30 minutes.
  2. Roll the pizza dough out on a piece of parchment paper to a rectangle about 10吊. Spread the HORMEL® Chili evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border on all sides. Top evenly with the cheese.
  3. Lightly beat the egg with a splash of water. Brush some of the egg wash over the border.
  4. Starting on the long side, roll the dough jelly roll style, rolling as tightly as possible, pinching the edges closed. Using a very sharp knife, cut slits in the top of the dough about every 1 1/2 inches. Brush the whole top of the stromboli with more of the egg wash. Sprinkle with the parmesan cheese and the parsley.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, about 12-15 minutes. Let the stromboli sit for 5 minutes before cutting into slices.

Pizza Chili

Florida was in the 50’s this week. I have a sweater and my seat warmer on if it gets anything below 75 degrees. I’m such a wimp. I don’t know how you guys in cold weather do it. Especially my friends in Buffalo. I don’t want to workout and have zero motivation to do anything around the house. All I want to do it snuggle on the couch and eat. I usually make this chili every Halloween but this year I decided to try something new. How can you go wrong with Pizza Chili?

I’m not going to lie. This has a ton of meat in it. 3 pounds. It’s enough to feed an army. One thing I did was cook the pepperoni with the beef and sausage to render out some of the fat.

There’s nothing worse than fat skimming the top of your chili. The pizza sauce is key here. It gives it that pizza flavor. I added a little more oregano just because that’s how I like it. The salsa and the pepperoni give it a little kick.
