I tweaked the recipe slightly on later versions - using Elmlea Double instead of double cream (gave a better creamy filling consistency). Amended the 250ml espresso to 200ml espresso plus 50ml amaretto (for an adult kick) and added a generous sprinkle of grated nutmeg on the bottom layer of biscuit.Prepared in a plastic leftovers tub (with lid) this is an ideal dessert to take to parties! Typically I get 8 good servings from the mix.-09 Jul 2017

Egg-Free Ladyfingers

Upon the release of Gemma’s insanely delicious 10 Minute Tiramisu, we have had loads of request for Egg-Free Ladyfingers.

Whether it be for cultural reasons, dietary preference, or just wanting to try something in a new way, I love to create recipes that are fit for all kinds of lifestyles. From vegan or gluten free, to keto, I’ve got you covered! This recipe is a classic reinvented, but they are every bit just as yummy — and of course they are the ideal building block for all your favorite tiramisu recipes!

What is Tiramisu?

Tiramisu is an Italian word and its translation in English is “Pick Me Up” It is a dessert first created in Tuscany – Italy and is also known as Tuscan Trifle this is an old dessert, and some claims that it goes back to the 19 th century. But keeping the History of how it has originated aside, let’s talk about why it became popular.

The original recipe had everything the people enjoyed the most like cream, alcohol, cake, and coffee. The combination was irresistible therefore, tiramisu grew popular in many countries and can be found in most elite restaurants.

In short, tiramisu is layers of ladyfingers cookies (Savoiardi Biscuits) soaked in coffee, then covered with velvety delicious cream filling consists of mascarpone and egg yolks, and dusted with cocoa powder before serving it.

How to make eggless tiramisu

If you want to eat Tiramisu but can’t eat because of the raw eggs, this recipe was designed with you in mind. What’s great about this eggless recipe is that it all you need is 15 MINUTES of prep time!

In case you are wondering whether not adding eggs to this recipe impacts the taste, let me tell you this – as someone who commemorates every event in her life with Tiramisu, I can confidently tell you that you will not see a noticeable difference in taste.

Tiramisu is a great make-ahead recipe. You can make single serving cups using Trifle cups or you can use a glass bowl like I did.

The steps to make tiramisu cake include –

  1. Beat cold heavy whipping cream in a deep mixing bowl until soft peaks form.
  2. In a bowl, whisk mascarpone cheese and sugar together till it is well blended.
  3. Add coffee granules to warm water and mix well.

What can you use instead of ladyfingers?

While this recipe does not use raw eggs, the ladyfinger cookies do have eggs in them. So if you don’t eat eggs at all, here are some options for you –

  1. Make eggless ladyfinger cookies at home.
  2. Substitute ladyfingers with either graham crackersor Marie biscuits. Since they are thinner than ladyfinger cookies, you’ll have to stack three of them to replace one layer of ladyfinger cookies.

If you enjoyed this eggless tiramisu recipe, here are a few other quick and delicious desserts recipes to try.

Recipe Summary

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 1 ¼ cups white sugar
  • 1 ¼ cups mascarpone cheese
  • 1 ¾ cups heavy whipping cream
  • 2 (12 ounce) packages ladyfingers
  • ⅓ cup coffee flavored liqueur
  • 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting
  • 1 (1 ounce) square semisweet chocolate

Combine egg yolks and sugar in the top of a double boiler, over boiling water. Reduce heat to low, and cook for about 10 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and whip yolks until thick and lemon colored.

Add mascarpone to whipped yolks. Beat until combined. In a separate bowl, whip cream to stiff peaks. Gently fold into yolk mixture and set aside.

Split the lady fingers in half, and line the bottom and sides of a large glass bowl. Brush with coffee liqueur. Spoon half of the cream filling over the lady fingers. Repeat ladyfingers, coffee liqueur and filling layers. Garnish with cocoa and chocolate curls. Refrigerate several hours or overnight.

To make the chocolate curls, use a vegetable peeler and run it down the edge of the chocolate bar.

Easy Eggless Tiramisu (No-Bake Dessert)

This Easy Eggless Tiramisu is a take on Italian classic and would make perfect dessert for any special occasion! Layers of coffee soaked biscuits & wonderful mascarpone cream with coffee liqueur - make-ahead and no-bake dessert heaven!

Perfect make-ahead (no-bake) dessert for special occasions!

I love Tiramisu! It is definitely on the list of my favourite, easy, no-bake desserts. It also happens to be one of my hubby's favourite so I tend to make it as a special treat for him or as a bribe when I want for something to get done lol. Even though occasion isn't important here at all as this Easy Eggless Tiramisu definitely doesn't need one, it is perfect for when you want to make a great impression. It's a fantastic choice as a Valentine's Day or dinner party dessert!

The best thing about this dessert is that it can be prepared in advance and without too much fuss. It really is a super easy, no-bake dessert and the perfect one for making ahead too. It is the best after a good chill in the fridge, preferably overnight, (although if you are short on time couple of hours will do too)! Once made it will keep well chilled in the fridge for up to 4 days so you can really get ahead here.

Few tips on how to make this Easy Eggless Tiramisu a success!

This particular Tiramisu is based on the recipe I have seen in BBC Good Food Magazine quite a few years back and which I have since modified to my liking. I have made it a bit lighter just to make myself feel a bit better when eating it and also changed the alcohol used from original Marsala to Baileys. Feel free to use any other coffee liqueur or indeed go back to Marsala. I do, however, find Baileys simply perfect here.

I don't know about you but I like biscuits in my Tiramisu really well soaked in coffee. The amount of coffee for well soaked biscuits is 300ml (1 ¼ cup) and I never have any left. To make things slightly easier on yourself divide your biscuits and coffee in half and make sure you use 150ml (10 Tbsp) of coffee for each 100g (3.5 oz) of biscuits. Oh and a word of warning here! Unless you are really strong willed, you will most likely end up with couple of lady fingers biccies (pre-soak) in your belly which is (of course) allowed (even encouraged) lol. Perks of the cook, they say!

I like to make my tiramisu in one large dish (approx. 24 x 18cm/9.5 x 7 inch) however you might prefer individual portions. These look best in nice tumbler or perhaps sundae style glasses where you can see all the layers. Most of the time one dish tiramisu is much easier and quicker though, and if you put your mind to it when serving up, you can get great looking, neat squares that will impress.

How can I adapt this dessert?

  • Use any coffee liqueur you've got handy or like the most.
  • If you'd like to make this Easy Eggless Tiramisu without any alcohol, simply leave it out. There is no need to substitute it with anything but you could add same amount of coffee in place of liqueur if you wish.
  • Use espresso or strong filtered coffee instead of instant.
  • If you don't have any creme fraiche simply increase the amount of double cream to 500ml/2 cups.
  • If you'd like 100% egg-free dessert you could substitute lady fingers for egg-free sponge cake. I would suggest to leave it out to dry a bit before gently spooning coffee over it.

Why Eggless?

The fact that this dessert is eggless wasn't too intentional at first and it definitely isn't authentic, however I do prefer it to the eggy version and don't think I would venture into the raw eggs territory in dessert now (I'm slightly paranoid). Please note, however, that this recipe still contains some eggs in the lady fingers sponge biscuits so it isn't 100% egg-free if you are allergic to eggs.

Can you freeze Easy Eggless Tiramisu?

I must say I have never tried freezing it but after a bit of research I found that it is indeed possible. However, it is advised to use full-fat ingredients if you are thinking of freezing it (source - Nigella.com). To freeze it, wrap it tightly in couple of layers of clingfilm followed by aluminium foil and freeze for up to 3 months. Defrost in the fridge overnight.

If you were planning on freezing your Tiramisu, I wouldn't dust the top with cocoa powder until it's defrosted for that freshly made look.

If you have ever frozen this dessert, please let me know.

Why this recipe is so great:

  • This recipe has all the fabulous taste of an authentic Tiramisu, but it’s made without the raw eggs, which simplifies the process and saves on calories.
  • Super easy to make. There is no baking, no tempering raw eggs, just mix, layer, and refrigerate. The hardest part of this recipe is waiting until the tiramisu is set so you can dig in.
  • Everyone can enjoy it. There is the option of using decaf coffee and leaving the alcohol out if needed.
  • Here are some reviews:

Tiramisu

This is the best tiramisu recipe I've ever made. An authentic tiramisu recipe with a twist for non alcoholic people. An tiramisu that is fluffy, rich, & irresistible. This is how do you make no raw egg tiramisu.

So what is Tiramisu cake?

In case you do not know, Tiramisu is an Italian trifle that is creamy and ethereal. It is made by dipping Italian Savoiardi cookies (Ladyfingers) in espresso and layering them with a magical, creamy filling. Finally it is dusted with cocoa powder and chilled for few hours in the fridge. You'll end up with a cake-y textured cookies flavored with espresso and topped with a lightened up, fluffy and cloudy custard like top. So delicious.
The bad news is, I've never really tasted the classic Tiramisu as the cloudy dreamy cream usually contains some sort of alcohol, usually rum and traditionally Marsala . how unfortunate is that!

A couple of months ago, or may be more, I've had my first experience with Carbonara sauce. It was not a good one though, and I am sure this was not because of the recipe but rather the recipient of the recipe :). Knowing that it had raw eggs, that is supposed to be cooked with the heat from the pasta, made it hard for the pasta to go all the way through to my stomach 🤣.
I am not totally against consuming raw eggs, it has some rules you need to follow, but somehow this puts a pressure on me. Although, I do not have this issue when licking a cake batter or cookie dough!

I've had Tiramisu, the easy way, many times as I've this amazing friend who makes a delicious "fake tiramisu" as we call it. She usually makes it with plain cookies like Marie, and she uses condensed milk, cream and cool whip for the cream. It was delicious, but I really wanted to taste the classic one so I googled a recipe with no alcohol and I came across really very good recipes but all of them used the raw egg method.
Getting rid of the alcohol was not hard at all, actually the espresso and the cocoa along with some pinches of vanilla powder was more than enough.
