Recipes for Lent: pasta with tuna

spaghetti (any durum wheat pasta can be used) - 250 gr,
tuna (preserved in its own oil or juice) - 160 gr,
medium-sized onion - 1 piece,
garlic - 1 puppy,
medium-sized tomatoes - 4 pcs (can be replaced with those preserved in their own juice),
canned olives - 80 gr (optional),
dried chili peppers - 1 piece (optional),
tomato sauce - 1 tbsp
refined olive or vegetable oil for frying,
salt,
freshly ground pepper,
green basil (can be replaced with parsley)

In a bowl with plenty of hot water, seasoned with salt, put the pasta.
Boil pasta over high heat (or medium)

8 minutes (or according to the time indicated on the package).
Until the water starts to boil and prepare the pasta, prepare the tomato sauce with tuna and green basil.
Peel an onion and finely chop.
Peel a squash, grate it and chop finely.
Wash the tomatoes, make a cross-shaped cut on each one, leave it in hot water for 2 minutes and peel it.
Cut the tomatoes into cubes.
Heat the olive (or vegetable) oil in the pan.
Add the Peperoncini pepper to the oil.
Add onion, season with salt and pepper.
Fry the onion, stirring, until slightly browned.
Add the garlic and fry

1 minute.
Remove the pepper from the pan and discard (it will already make the food slightly spicy, but if someone prefers spicy or very spicy food, you can leave the pepper until the sauce is almost ready or even ready).
Add the tomatoes to the onion with garlic, season a little more with salt (season moderately with salt, so as not to overdo it), mix and cook, stirring from time to time, until the liquid evaporates.
When the liquid will evaporate, and the sauce is thicker, add a tablespoon of quality tomato sauce.
* If desired, the tomato sauce can be replaced with knife tip sugar to taste.
Also, if the sauce is made from canned tomatoes, and not fresh, tomato sauce should not be added.
Add in the sauce olives without liquid (if desired, the olives can be cut into rounds), canned tuna (also without liquid) and basil leaves.
Mix the sauce and, to taste, if necessary, season with salt, pepper or add sugar on top of the knife.
Boiled pasta is drained of water.
* An amount of water in which the pasta was boiled can be stored. If necessary, it can be added to the tomato sauce if it is to be more liquid.
Mix the pasta with the tomato and tuna sauce and serve, garnished with green basil.

Pasta salad with tuna and tzatziki

I did it on Saturday night and today it is not at all. And when you think that I doubled the quantities. Do I have to say how it was?
I also made the tzatzichi sauce according to your recipe (I've never heard of this sauce in my life, let alone making it.)
A whole man in the pan-Stefan-

:) You cooked a lot on the weekend, well at least your effort was rewarded. However, tuna pasta salad is an independent recipe - I just improved it by adding Tzatziki sauce. Tzatziki is very well known here, in Constanta, even in Bucharest I noticed the same thing.

this tzatziki sauce is made with cucumber and semolina.

Tzatziki sauce is made with yogurt and cucumber, without sour cream. Recipe of tzaztiki is on the blog, you can read it by clicking on the bold word)

I found the sauce ... I also prepared the recipe for the result. DELICIOUS

I'm glad to hear that you did well and that you liked the salad. I hope they keep an eye on other recipes on the blog.

yes very good salad would have been even better with more tzatziki sauce. I will also try the pasta with chicken and mushrooms, the Bulgarian and the Greek salad. I made the tzatziki sauce from a large yogurt 4 tablespoons sour cream, I tied it with dill and cucumber and I used it in ham rolls filled with a mixture of Mexican vegetables and a little cheese to bind

How to choose the tone

When buying fresh tuna, focus on:

  • medium to small fish, because the larger the fish, the more mercury it will accumulate
  • catch tone
  • fresh, firm, moist, uniformly colored fish. If it is dry or has brown edges it is most likely not fresh. In addition, you should smell a slight smell of the ocean and not a very strong smell of fish.

If you choose canned tuna, choose cans that are not bulging, rusty, battered and look carefully on the label at:
